The daily newspaper Iltalehti reports that two rare species of bats have been observed at Malmi Airport. A new, comprehensive survey is now proposed.
According to a new report on the bat populations at Malmi Airport, the number of observed bats was a surprise to the surveyors.
The airport area is mostly weakly lit meadowlike open space, which according to the survey offers many species of bats excellent hunting grounds.
Among the observed bats, two rarities were found: the parti-colored bat (Vespertilio murinus) and Nathusius’ pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii).
