The Rescue Department’s statement is one year old, but it comes to daylight only now. According to the association struggling for continued aviation at Malmi, the City has constantly stated that aircraft must leave the hangar as it’s needed for large public gatherings. It’s been an urgent matter too. The aviators’ tenancies were discontinued at the end of August, even though residential construction in the area is to begin in 2019 at the earliest.<\/p>\n

According to the Rescue Department, the lack of entrances and exists and dangerous electrical wiring stop the City’s plans. In addition, the floor of the hangar is so uneven that people are in danger or tripping and hurting themselves. Something could possibly be done about the problems if the culturo-historically significant hangar wasn’t under a preservation order.<\/p>\n

The Rescue Department’s statement was not included in the decision-making process in the summer, when the officials decided not to extend the tenancies in the hangar. The statement was also missing two weeks ago when the City’s Environmental Committee dismissed two complaints made against the decision on the grounds that the hangar is needed for large public gatherings in which the City is involved as organizer.<\/p>\n

Apart from shooting sessions of one TV series, the hangar has not been reserved for events such as concerts or fairs.<\/p>\n

When HBL called the City’s officials four weeks ago, nobody could say in what stage the Rescue Department’s inspection and statement were. It had, in fact, been conducted and the statement written – in the autumn of last year.<\/p>\n

The Rescue Department’s statement from 2016 became public when Mr. Sampsa Jyrkynen<\/strong>\u00a0got a reply from the City to his information request a few days ago.<\/p>\n

– I’m just a citizen interested in the decision-making process, he says.<\/p>\n

What’s going on?<\/strong><\/p>\n

HBL wrote about the twists in the hangar’s tale in April. At City Hall, the person in charge of developing the airport area is Ms.\u00a0Sirpa Kallio<\/strong>. According to her, there have been problems in internal communication at Malmi, and some people are also spreading alternative information about what has been agreed. Maybe there are communication problems in the City’s government as well, then.<\/p>\n

– What can one say about this? Has the Rescue Department’s statement been deliberately left out? wonders Mr. Kauko Koskinen<\/strong> (National Coalition), who in April made a motion about the City continuing the tenancies of the aviators who need the hangar.<\/p>\n

Mr. Koskinen first learned of the Rescue Department’s statement on Tuesday. The City’s Real Estate Committee, which hasn’t seen the Rescue Department’s statement either, already found the time to turn down the hangar’s continued aviation use. \u00a0The City Council is supposed to discuss Koskinen’s motion in November.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Friends of Malmi Airport, Mr. Timo Hyv\u00f6nen<\/strong>, also wonders what the City’s up to.<\/p>\n

– It’s news to me that the City has a statement that has not been included in the decision-making process.<\/p>\n

Hyv\u00f6nen wants the matter sorted out, but also hopes that all parties calm down.<\/p>\n

– The aircraft hangar is equipped for storing aircraft. The most sensible thing to do is to let this activity continue.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Anni Sinnem\u00e4ki<\/strong> (Green League) is also the Chairperson of the City’s Urban Environment Committee. Contacted by HBL for a comment, Ms. Sinnem\u00e4ki says that she hasn’t read the statement.<\/p>\n

– I do know of it, and the matter is important, of course.<\/p>\n

That the document should come into daylight only in the context of an information request is explained by Sinnem\u00e4ki by the City’s will to promote Malmi’s development. According to the City Council, the area is needed for residential construction. The Parliament is expected to soon take a stand to a citizens’ law initiative to keep the airport active.<\/p>\n

R\u00e4ddningsverkets utl\u00e5tande \u00e4r ett \u00e5r gammalt, men blir offentligt f\u00f6rst nu. Enligt f\u00f6reningen som k\u00e4mpar f\u00f6r fortsatt flygverksamhet i Malm har staden hela tiden sagt att flygplanen ska ut ur hangaren d\u00e4rf\u00f6r att hangaren beh\u00f6vs f\u00f6r stora publiktillst\u00e4llningar. R\u00e4ddningsverkets utl\u00e5tande hade inte fogats till beslutshandlingarna n\u00e4r tj\u00e4nstem\u00e4nnen i somras besl\u00f6t att inte f\u00f6rl\u00e4nga hyreskontrakten f\u00f6r hangaren. Utl\u00e5tandet saknades \u00e4ven f\u00f6r tv\u00e5 veckor sedan n\u00e4r stadsmilj\u00f6n\u00e4mnden avslog tv\u00e5 besv\u00e4r med motiveringen att hangaren beh\u00f6vs f\u00f6r stora publikevenemang som staden \u00e4r med och arrangerar.<\/p>\n

F\u00f6rutom en teveinspelning har inga tillst\u00e4llningar, exempelvis konserter eller m\u00e4ssor, bokats till flyghangaren.<\/p>\n

N\u00e4r HBL ringde tj\u00e4nstem\u00e4nnen i stadshuset f\u00f6r fyra veckor sedan var det ingen som kunde s\u00e4ga i vilket skede r\u00e4ddningsverkets granskning och utl\u00e5tande \u00e4r. Men granskningen var ju redan gjord och utl\u00e5tandet hade skrivits \u2013 p\u00e5 h\u00f6sten f\u00f6reg\u00e5ende \u00e5r.<\/p>\n

HBL skrev om hangartvisten i april. Vid stadshuset \u00e4r det Sirpa Kallio som ansvarar f\u00f6r flygplatsomr\u00e5dets utveckling. Hon sade att det har varit problem med den interna informationsg\u00e5ngen p\u00e5 Malm och att det ocks\u00e5 finns de som sprider alternativ information om vad som avtalats. Kanske informationsfnurrorna sedan ocks\u00e5 \u00e4r i stadens f\u00f6rvaltning.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Vad ska man s\u00e4ga? Har r\u00e4ddningsverkets utl\u00e5tande avsiktligt l\u00e4mnats bort? undrar Kauko Koskinen<\/strong> (Saml) som i april gjorde en motion om att staden f\u00f6rl\u00e4nger hyreskontrakten med flygarna som beh\u00f6ver hangaren.<\/p>\n

Kauko Koskinen fick veta om r\u00e4ddningsverkets utl\u00e5tande p\u00e5 tisdagen. Fastighetsn\u00e4mnden, som inte heller sett r\u00e4ddningsverkets utl\u00e5tande, har redan hunnit ge avslag. Stadsfullm\u00e4ktige torde diskutera Koskinens motion i november.<\/p>\n

Ocks\u00e5 st\u00f6df\u00f6reningen Malmin lentoaseman yst\u00e4v\u00e4ts ordf\u00f6rande Timo Hyv\u00f6nen<\/strong> undrar vad det \u00e4r som p\u00e5g\u00e5r vid staden.<\/p>\n
